It seems like we have been here before on a never-ending cycle of political posturing over shutting down the government unless the Affordable Care Act is stopped, overturned, kicked to the curb. But that is causing some disagreement among Republicans as many in the House want to tie raising the debt ceiling to defunding the Affordable Care Act, while some in the Senate are saying, 'What’s the point?’ as that Democratically-controlled body and the White House will not let it go through.

largest steel dam in the country is going to be built at Tempe Town Lake. That is the word from the city of Tempe. The city council voted to approve funding for the manufacturing of the steel dam Thursday
night.

Arizona passengers scheduled to fly on Allegiant Airlines could experience flight delays or cancellations through the weekend. Allegiant has grounded most of its jets to inspect emergency exit slides.Allegiant stopped flying all 52 of its MD-80 airplanes after passengers were forced to evacuate a jet at the Las Vegas airport on Monday.

Police in Mesa are
investigating a scam they say appears to be spreading across Arizona. Detective Steve Berry explains it involves your electrical service.
“They had received phone calls from an individual saying
that they were behind on their bill and that if they didn’t go get a cash card
of some sort and provide that number and information over the phone, that their
utilities would be turned off,” Berry
said.

A bill that makes logging a requirement on some public
forestland, speeding up the timber sales process and making it more difficult
to challenge them is nearing a vote on the House floor. Co-sponsor Paul Gosar of
Arizona says
the bill will get badly needed income to rural timber counties, but the
Congressional Budget Office says the counties would actually get less government
money than they do now.

A new report says lax inspection procedures by the state
Cosmetology Board put public health at risk. The Auditor General says a review
of 54 beauty shops licensed over a 6-year period found 22 of them had still not
been inspected.

Arizona
drivers are paying a little less at the gas pump this week, according to AAA. The cost of a gallon of unleaded gas is off
two cents from a week ago, to $3.38. Spokeswoman Stephanie Dembowski credits
relative stability in the Middle East and in the Mid-Atlantic
states for the modest decrease.

Secretary of State Ken Bennett is making no bones about his
intention of running for governor and a newly approved law is allowing him to
do it. The measure allows elected officials to be more vocal about their plans
without being forced to resign, according to Matt Roberts of the Secretary of
State’s Office.
