GLOBE, Ariz. — Carloads of moviegoers rolled into the Apache Drive In – just as they have been for generations. The theater opened in 1954, and in this location 20 years later. But the crowd didn’t come for some recent Hollywood release.

The Arizona Board of Regents is asking for a nearly 15 percent hike in next year’s budget for the state’s three universities and the Board of Regents itself. The regents said the nearly $100 million increase does not make up for the massive cuts made by the legislature during the recession, but that budget may not make it through intact.
