Former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, gave her
farewell speech as Homeland Security Secretary today, praising the department's
response to critical issues during her tenure. But, she ended her address by giving
advice to her successor, saying that security problems will continue,
“Many things still need tending and my successor will
most certainly have a full plate on his or her hands,” Napolitano said.

Federal officials have agreed not to try to capture and relocate wolves that enter Arizona, from Mexico. The United States Fish and
Wildlife Service has been involved in a reintroduction program for the wolves
for nearly two decades, but the announcement that Mexico was launching its own
reintroduction program, just south of the border, caused complications.

erected its first cross marking
the death of an illegal border crosser, since announcing an effort to put the
GPS markers along I-8 just over a week ago.

Another dust storm and thunderstorm blew through the Phoenix metropolitan area last night, after heavy rain
fell on many parts of western Arizona.
Winds from the approaching storm system around sundown pushed a hazy brown cloud
over most of the Valley.

A federal judge in Phoenix has sentenced a Venezuelan Air Force
colonel to 19 months in prison for conspiring to export military
aircraft engines to his home country. A local businessman was also
involved in the scheme.

Arizonans have long lagged behind the rest of the country
in per capita earnings, and a new report finds it’s
worse than ever.
Arizona State University's W.P. Carey
School of Business analyzed per capita earnings from 2011, and found that on
average Arizona residents made 19 percent less than the national average in
direct compensation – that’s wages and salaries.
