A southwest Arizona man is hospitalized after getting a huge jolt of electricity while allegedly attempting to steal copper wire from a wooden power pole near Wellton. Alfonso Zavala of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office says 34-year-old Joshua Hess is in critical condition after making a tragic mistake.

A Maricopa County Sheriff's Detention Officer was killed outside his home early Thursday as he worked on his car. Sheriff Joe Arpaio says 27-year-old Officer Jorge Vargas may or may not have been targeted because of his job.

President Obama is scheduled to sign a bill Friday that will lower college student loan rates. After months of congressional wrangling and a missed deadline, loan rates doubled on July 1. The Senate and House approved a new bill just before the summer recess.

An Arizona man will spend two weeks behind bars, for his role in a terrorism hoax. A jury had convicted Michael David Turley in June of endangerment and knowingly giving a false impression – this after he sent his 16-year old nephew into a busy Northwest Phoenix intersection with a fake grenade launcher in July, 2012.
