A state corrections officer is continuing her recovery after
being beaten by two inmates at the state prison complex in Winslow, a week ago.
Department of Corrections spokesman Bill Lamoreaux says the incident took place
in the Kaibab unit of the prison.

man who has been indicted for threatening to kill two CNN anchors has allegedly
confessed to tweeting about the plots to kill Jane Valez-Mitchell and Nancy
Grace. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says David Simpson's car had been
packed with guns, zip ties and a knife, and he was ready to leave New York for Georgia.

Monsoon storms are expected around the state again today. The
National Weather Service says we really got hit Thursday morning. Meteorologist
Austin Jamieson says one of the worst storms was in Pinal County.

The American Civil Liberties Union of
Arizona is trying to stop the arrests of panhandlers in Flagstaff. The organization
has asked a court to block the arrests as a legal battle moves through the
system.

New numbers from the federal government show Arizona had
basically the same number of prisoners last year as in 2011.That bucks the national trend. According to the Bureau of
Justice Statistics, the country’s prison population dropped last year for the
third straight year.

Helicopters are flying over the nearly 250 acres scorched by the Doce Wildfire about seven miles northwest Prescott, just like they were last month. But the choppers are not there to make water drops to quell the blaze, they are spreading seed and mulch in an effort to restore the area that was charred.

Arizona students entering third grade this year are the
first group of kids that may be held back because of their reading level. More than 18,000 children are at risk of repeating third grade. For the past three years, the Arizona State Board of
Education prepared schools across the state to make sure that children can read
at an acceptable level at third grade.
