Spectators in the city of Phoenix saw 355 shells per minute explode in the night sky this Fourth of July. More than 75,000 residents watched the show at Steele Indian School Park, with thousands more lining nearby streets.

Residents of about 350 homes in northwestern Arizona remain evacuated this morning, as firefighters battle the Dean Peak wildfire, in the Hualapai Mountains. Spokeswoman Jan Bardwell said the blaze has grown to about 5400 acres, but that some progress has been made.

Two Mesa helicopter pilots are being credited with helping the pilot of a small plane, after his landing gear failed. Officer Darren Rigsby said he and his partner, both of whom are flight instructors, were in the area when they found out about the mechanical problems with the 1970 Cessna.

A volcano in Mexico has forced several U.S. airlines to cancel dozens of flights, including out of Phoenix. Earlier this week, authorities recorded several tremors at the 18,000 foot Popocatepetl volcano.

The medical examiners office in Phoenix has released autopsy results for the 19 hotshots who died Sunday in the Yarnell Hill Fire. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office performed all 19 autopsies Tuesday and called in extra staff to handle the workload.
