Firefighters in Show Low had their hands full with a blaze at a wood pellet manufacturing plant Tuesday.  Fire Captain Brent Mix says they brought in air tankers to put slurry on it to prevent the flames from spreading, and to the scrub brush and propane tanks nearby.

Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis port of entry had to hit another gear this week when a pregnant woman trying to cross into the United States went into labor.  Spokeswoman Teresa Small says an officer with paramedic training was called to help the 20-year-old U.

A federal jury convicted former U.S. Representative Rick Renzi on Tuesday of corruption charges. Renzi was charged with 32 felony counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and extortion. Renzi, a Republican, represented Arizona's 1st Congressional District from 2003 until 2009.

Members of the Arizona House of Representatives expected to be off work until Thursday—until Governor Jan Brewer decided to call them into special session last night.The legislature had adjourned for the day, but the Governor called a special session on the state budget and a proposal to expand Medicaid coverage to three hundred thousand additional low income residents in Arizona.

The federal government has granted an Arizona tribe the right to build a road to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. It is the latest in an ongoing scuffle over access to the tourist destination. The Hualapai Tribe operates the glass bridge over the canyon.

Arizona's monsoon season gets underway Saturday. State transportation officials are urging drivers to be cautious during the summer storms, by reintroducing their dust storm awareness campaign. The public awareness program reminds motorists of what to do when trapped in a dust storm.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have rescued two domesticated dogs that had been abandoned in the desert, east of Phoenix. Sheriff Joe Arpaio says a woman spotted the dogs while she was on horseback and led deputies to them.

More Arizona kids are getting free summer meals to help their families stretch food dollars, according to a new report from the Food Research and Action Center. It says more than 462,000 kids got free or reduced-price lunches in Arizona schools, but only about 60,000 get the free summer meals.
