A conservation group says lead poisoning killed several endangered birds last winter. The Peregrine Fund says eight California Condors died last winter in Arizona and Utah. Four of them died from lead poisoning.

The Hopi Tribe of Northern Arizona says a national bank seriously mishandled its investments. The tribe claims it has lost millions. The tribe filed its claims against Wachovia earlier this month with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

The historic Clark Telescope at Flagstaff’s Lowell Observatory is set to undergo a $300,000 makeover. A fundraiser for the project successfully wrapped up this week.The telescope has been a familiar site on Flagstaff’s Mars Hill for the past 117 years.

The funeral for Phoenix Firefighter Bradley Harper is scheduled for Friday. The memorial service will be at Christ's Church of the Valley. Harper will be laid to rest at the Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery.

A paper released this month concludes there are strong benefits to dual language instruction for children who grow up speaking a language other than English at home. The number of kids entering school who grow up with two languages has grown by 40 percent in the last decade.
