Last Friday a federal judge ruled the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office engaged in racial profiling against Latinos. The court ordered the sheriff’s department stop those practices. Attorneys for the plaintiffs indicate they will ask the court to appoint a monitor to make sure the sheriff’s office complies.

Police have identified a body found floating in Tempe Town Lake. Gerrick Begay was discovered between the railroad bridge and the Mill Avenue Bridge around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Begay was 21 years old and a Tempe resident, police said.

A major office project near downtown Tempe was announced Friday. The complex is part of a public-private venture and a Fortune 500 corporation will lease the space. NADINE ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: City of Tempe and Arizona State University officials announced the construction of a $600 million office complex adjacent to the Tempe Town Lake.

An Arizona man is in federal custody after allegedly attempting to open the emergency exit door on an Alaska Airlines plane as it was landing in Portland, Ore. Some passengers and crew members restrained 23-year-old Alexander Herrera.

A social service agency based in Detroit, Mich. is working to bring its unusual approach to poverty to Arizona. Matrix Human Services treats poverty like an illness and its clients like patients. President Marcella Wilson says the first thing they ask people is: “What is your dream?” “So if that person wishes to be a nurse, we start with basic needs—food, clothing shelter,” Wilson said.

Firefighters are attempting to get the upper hand on a wildfire north of Young, Ariz., on the Tonto National Forest. The blaze charred over 15 acres after being spotted Monday afternoon and is burning in mixed conifer on steep terrain, according to spokeswoman Tammy Pike.

Lawmakers from northern states are saying “no” to a proposed study of a fee to enter the United States by land. They say it will hurt cities along the U.S. - Canadian border. Last month the Department of Homeland Security requested permission to study an entry fee at the nation's land border crossings.
