The Arizona Senate on Monday gave preliminary approval to a bill that would ban cities and counties from destroying guns turned in at buybacks. That approval came after 18 Democratic attempts to amend the bill – all were unsuccessful.

April marks the start of Ozone Season in the Valley, which runs through September -- a longer-than-average season for higher levels of ozone pollution. Ozone is produced when heat and sunlight interact with vehicle emissions and other chemicals in the air, so the long, hot days of summer are prime conditions for producing elevated ozone levels.

A man convicted of setting the Tucson Pioneer Hotel fire that killed dozens of people more than 40 years ago is expected to be set free Tuesday. Louis Taylor was 16 years old when he was convicted of setting the fire.

Arizona's highest court is being asked to decide whether anyone who smokes marijuana, legally or not, can ever drive legally in the state. The case involves a man who was stopped for speeding and whose blood test showed a metabolite of the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, which resulted in a charge of driving under the influence.

The Speaker of the Arizona House Andy Tobin says lawmakers are on target for wrapping up their session, but he's willing to put on the brakes to give Governor Jan Brewer a break. “The governor has asked us to please slow down,” Tobin said.
