People who commit high-profile acts of gun violence are often mentally ill, like Adam Lanza, James Holmes and Jared Loughner. Conversations about gun control often come with calls for improved mental health care, but while people understand the mental health care system needs to be improved, that doesn’t mean they can tell when someone actually needs help.

The Associated Press Stylebook no longer will sanction using the term "illegal immigrant." The decision has been applauded by Latino advocates. For years, many protested the AP and other journalism organizations, including The New York Times, over usage of what they believed to be an offensive term. But journalists are left wondering, what is the proper terminology for an immigrant in the country illegally?

E. coli threat prompts recall of some frozen food in Arizona

A major producer of frozen foods is recalling products distributed in Arizona and several other states because of concerns about E. coli contamination. David McAtee of the Yavapai County Health Department says the voluntary recall involves Farm Rich Brand frozen meals and snacks, produced between Nov. 12-19 of last year.

“They are recalling about 190,000 lbs of frozen chicken, quesadillas, and various other sorts of heat-preserve snack-type foods,” McAtee said.
