The Arizona Board of Regents has unanimously approved more than $100 million in tuition and fee increase at the state’s three universities for the next academic year.   Base tuition and mandatory fees will go up 3 percent at Arizona State and the University of Arizona and they’ll increase anywhere between 2-5 percent at Northern Arizona University.

Governor Jan Brewer has signed into law a rule that stops schools from putting students in isolation rooms without their parents’ consent. In a letter that came with Wednesday’s announcement she was signing the bill into law, Brewer says putting out-of-control children into small, padded rooms for hours is chilling.

The town of Marana may develop its own tourism bureau. The Marana Town Council could not reach an agreement with the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau. Council members voted Tuesday to seek other options to promote tourism.

The director of Arizona’s veterans’ services department is now out of a job. He was forced out Wednesday after hiring a female former state representative who then slammed women troops in combat.

One day after his release, Louis Taylor says he’s trying to adjust to his freedom. Taylor was released from prison on Tuesday, after serving 40 years behind bars. Louis Taylor breaks down as he talks about when he was convicted in 1973 of setting the Pioneer Hotel fire and responsible for the deaths of 29 people who died in the blaze.

Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration announced 149 airport control towers would close starting next week, as a result of the sequester budget cuts. Four of those towers are in Arizona.

Bisbee has become Arizona’s first town to recognize civil unions, after the city council last night approved an ordinance, on a 5-2  vote. The Arizona attorney general has said he will sue to try and block it.

KJZZ's Mark Brodie moderated a panel discussion, which included Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections Director Charles Flanagan, Westwood High School’s Counseling Department Chair Anna Cicero, State Representative Eric Meyer and the Morrison Institute’s Senior Analyst and Statistician Eric Hedberg.
