Mexico's president has nominated a new consul general for Phoenix. The nominee previously led Mexico's consulates in El Paso and Nogales. Nominee Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez has spent more than three decades in the Mexican foreign service, including the division that oversees the protection of Mexican's rights abroad.

Tucson-based defense contractor Raytheon Missile Systems was awarded more than $250 million in two Defense Department contracts Friday, which fulfill commitments from the Army and the US Missile Defense Agency.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will delay the closures of towers at 149 airports across the country, including four in Arizona.Towers were supposed to have started closing Sunday night, but the FAA says it’ll now wait until June 15.

This morning, theatre critic Robrt Pela reviewed Theatre Works' production of "Musical of Musicals (The Musical). "Musical of Musicals (The Musical)" has a beard a mile long. This send-up of Broadway tuners should at this point in the "let's spoof-musical theater game," play like a post-peak retread, an after-thought of irony or a late-to-the-party lesser-than.

The Arizona Senate rejected a bill Thursday making it easier to fire some low-performing teachers The measure would have allowed experienced teachers to be placed on probationary status.That status allows a school board to fire a teacher with little notice.
