Governor Jan Brewer has vetoed a bill that would have removed the age limit of 45 for serving in the state militia. The militia is a provision in the state constitution, but as Brewer noted in her veto letter, it has never been established or funded.

A new study said Arizona’s national parks are seeing fewer visits. The National Park Service said that is because European tourists are staying home.The National Park Service report indicated that Grand Canyon and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Las Vegas saw a slight uptick in tourist visits last year.

The so-called Gang of Eight bipartisan senators have released their proposed immigration reform legislation. Clint Bolick, co-author of "Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution" with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, said the proposal sounds fair and effective in making modifications to how legal and undocumented immigration is handled.

 Pima Community College in Tucson has been placed on probation by a national accreditation board. PCC has been ordered to correct problems concerning personnel and financial issues. PCC was notified of its probationary status by the Higher Learning Commission this week.

The Postal Inspection Service says tests of suspicious mail sent to the Phoenix office of U.S. Senator Jeff Flake have found nothing dangerous or harmful. Authorities evacuated part of the building this morning after staff for the Republican senator came across mail that was stained with an oily substance.

The Tucson City Manger is proposing across-the-board wage hikes for city employees. Richard Miranda presented his suggests for next year's budget and it includes a 55-cent an hour raise. The Arizona Daily Star reports, Miranda’s budget is about $45 millon less than Tucson’s current budget.

Officials say visitors will see long lines at Grand Canyon National Park entrances this summer because of federal budget cuts.  Last month,  all national parks were ordered to cut their budgets by 5 percent this year under the federal sequestration program.
