State forestry officials are gearing up for what they
expect will be an 'average' wildfire
season this summer. Fire Information Officer Carrie Dennett says though,
wildfires in the West have increased in severity over the last few years.

Arizona State University has opened an outreach center in Santa Monica, Calif. to
attract residents of that state to Arizona.
Spokesman James O'Brien says the center will also benefit ASU alumni.
“Probably our largest alumni association chapter is in
Los Angeles and
so it provides a place where not only employees of the university but
volunteers and alumni and friends of the university can engage,” O’Brien said.

New research from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
finds it's getting tougher to keep kids away from tobacco, and the Centers for
Disease Control say more than one in six Arizona
teens either smokes or chews tobacco products.

Something very old is Arizona’s newest Historic Landmark. KJZZ’s
Al Macias reports the Murray Springs Clovis Site in southern Arizona will be dedicated Saturday morning.
Thirteen thousand years ago, give or take a
few decades, hunters took down a mammoth, a bison and possibly other animals
during hunts just east of where Sierra Vista is now.
