Expectations for Arizona State University’s football team were low entering this season. Following a collapse in 2011 that included a blowout loss to Boise State in the Maaco Bowl, head coach Dennis Erickson was fired, and starting quarterback Brock Osweiler decided to take his game to the NFL.

Demolition crews are tearing down the Madison Hotel in downtown Phoenix. KJZZ's Peter O'Dowd watched the demolition. The Phoenix Suns own the property and a second abandoned hotel next door. The Suns have not yet responded to KJZZ's requests for comment, but the company has said it plans to turn the land into a parking lot.

Builders in the U.S. started construction on apartments and single-family homes in September at the fastest pace since July 2008.Between August and September, the Commerce Department says housing construction increased by 15 percent across the United States.

More than 35,000 Arizona school students will take part in a multistate earthquake drill on Thursday morning. People in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington will also take part in the drill.

The Valley-based Apollo Group, which owns the University of Phoenix, will close more than one hundred locations to deal with dropping income.
