Drivers in several Arizona cities are considered among the safest in the country, according to a new report. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie has more.  MARK BRODIE: Allstate Insurance Company’s annual “Best Drivers Report” lists Phoenix as the safest city with more than a million residents.

When the summer monsoons come to the southwest, abundant runoff leads to major problems for cities — streets flood and temporary ponds appear that serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Engineers try to contain and eliminate the water, and environmentalists try to recycle it, but some desert animals need these temporary pools to stick around.

Today may be election day, but many Maricopa County voters have already cast their ballot in the primary race. More than 45 percent of ballots are in from people who requested to vote early.The night before Election Day, the Maricopa County elections department had already received upwards of 344,000 early ballots.

California’s Imperial County continues to shake this morning. The area, located in the southern part of the state, west of Yuma, has experienced more than 400 earthquakes just since Sunday.The largest reported quake was magnitude 5.

Charlie Parker is the father of bebop!  Along with Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk, his ideas took  jazz in a whole new direction.  The new harmonies and rhythms that were revolutionary in the 1940s are a standard part of jazz today.
