Governor Jan Brewer says she won’t take any further steps to have legislators consider election-law changes. An initiative that will appear on the November ballot would allow Arizonans to vote for a candidate of any party in the primary election, and advance the primary's top two finishers to the general election -- regardless of party affiliation.

Wildlife officials say golden algae killed thousands of fish in a 20-mile stretch of the Salt River. Golden algae were discovered in Texas in the 1980s; they were first found in Arizona in 2005. The algae produce a toxin that attacks the gills of fish and causes them to suffocate.

Tempe police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration say they have dismantled a drug-trafficking organization that was operating in Tempe. From Phoenix, Jude Joffe-Block reports that law enforcement are saying the ring had links to the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel.

Navajo lawmakers have rejected a settlement that recognizes the tribe's rights to water from the Little Colorado River basin. From Phoenix, KJZZ's Steve Goldstein reports. The tribal council voted 15-6 against the settlement on Thursday during a special session in Window Rock.
