Planned Parenthood of Arizona has sued the state. As KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports, it’s trying to block a new state law banning public money from going to organizations that provide abortions from taking effect next month.

Backers of a sales tax increase are scheduled to go to court Wednesay morning to save months of work from being invalidated. In 2010, the state legislature referred a one cent sales tax hike to the ballot to help cover budget deficits.

Phoenix’s mayor is in Washington, D.C. today. He joined a bipartisan group at the release of a new study on how automatic budget cuts would affect the country. The Budget Control Act of 2011 created a so-called supercommittee that looked at reducing the deficit and increasing revenues, but it repeatedly failed to reach an agreement, meaning that automatic, widespread cuts called budget sequestration are scheduled to hit in January.

Glendale has rejected the signatures turned in by critics of the city’s deal with the prospective new owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. They’d wanted to give city voters a chance to overturn the 20-year, $324 million lease agreement.

Road closures are a continued headache for drivers heading into Crown King. Thunderstorms on Saturday dumped 6 inches of rain on Crown King and caused a mudslide that forced the closure of Crown King Road, the main thoroughfare into town off Interstate 17.

The Arizona State Bar is partnering with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and other local and federal agencies to crack down on the unauthorized practice of immigration law. The State Bar says it’s becoming increasingly concerned about so-called notarios, who act as legal advisers to Latino immigrants but are often scammers.

Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl is defending Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on claims his company, Bain Capital, outsourced jobs while he was still at the helm. On NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Kyl said President Obama was stretching the truth in making the charges.

Severe storms in Tucson yesterday downed power lines and caused flash flooding. The Tucson metro area saw between 1 inch and 2.5 inches of rain Sunday afternoon and evening. There were also reports of some fairly large hail, and a wind gust that reached 61 miles per hour.

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision on Arizona's immigration law means police there will soon be required to check immigration status if they suspect illegal presence, unless litigants in a parallel lawsuit block that from happening.
