Maricopa County Public Health officials have confirmed the county’s first West Nile death of the year. The victim was an elderly man who had other health complications. West Nile Virus only causes symptoms in about 20 percent of people who get infected.

One of the inmates who escaped a private prison near Kingman is set to go before the state Court of Appeals.  John McCluskey was serving 15 years for attempted murder. He and two other inmates broke out of prison in 2010 after his fiancée Casslyn Welch tossed wire cutters over the facility’s fence.

The class action lawsuit trial against the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scheduled to continue at a federal court house in Phoenix on Tuesday.  Arpaio is expected to take the stand to answer accusations that include running a law enforcement agency that encourages the racial profiling of Latinos.
